Lantana of Texas was “born” in 1983,
My production facility was in roman forest, a small community north of Houston.
My first objective was to place the Lantana products in the retail market, Kroger, Randells and Safeway. Big mistake.
I did get into Kroger, was on the shelf with 4 products. Was doing well, then I was informed I was going to be charged “shopping allowances” to the tune of $5000 for each product. Out of Kroger, out of big retail.
Houston has over 300 small retailers and meat markets. My new objective; hire a salesman and go after them! Paid him with products, and I still to this day ship to some of these stores. Big surprise, big disappointment.
Got a call from Walmart. The man on the other end said he was the District Manager for 300 stores, and he would like to order for each one of those stores. I had to tell him I was a small company and could not possibly supply 300 stores. He said he was sorry and if there was anything he could do to help. I was just sick.
